banana for diabetes

Banana and Diabetes

Today as I was writing the diet charts for mother and father in law, who are diabetics, banana was part of the weekly fruit intake that I was recommending. The moment we started to discuss, out comes the myth that surrounds banana among people of her age. She says that banana has so much sugar, diabetics should not have it and it increases body weight. This is the farthest from truth. Banana has loads of nutrients that are needed by our body. Gives instant energy. We see sportspersons eat banana during games. It has sugar in natural form which is how we should take in sugar naturally. It has low glycemic index which is great for our body. Its packed with potassium (helps blood pressure) and vitamin B6 (improves metabolism). Its a great mid meal snack and far superior than the chips and fries that makes us obese.
